DO I HAVE A CAVITY WALL?
Very good question! In most houses built after the 1930's the external walls are constructed with two layers of brick and with a small air gap ('cavity') between them.
The brick pattern on typical cavity walls compared to solid brick walls looks like this
You can also check whether you have cavity walls by measuring the depth of them at any entrance door or window of your property. Cavity walls are at least 26.5cm (10.5 inches) thick..
If you are still unsure then call us and one of our surveyors will be very happy to come and take a look with you!
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO INSULATE MY CAVITY WALL?
Well first of all to SAVE YOU LOTS OF MONEY - not only now but year after year - and each time fuel prices go up your savings INCREASE!
More heat is lost through your walls than from anywhere else in your house. The Government regards cavity wall insulation as one of the most effective cost and carbon saving measures that you can carry out on your property - which is why they are encouraging home owners who have unfilled wall cavities to take advantage of current 25% installation grants. These are available to EVERYONE right now!
WHAT IS CAVITY WALL INSULATION?
We blow mineral wool insulation into the cavity in your wall. This traps air in its fibres and forms a barrier that retains the heat INSIDE your home in winter and in hot summer conditions keeps excessive heat OUTSIDE promoting all-year-round comfort. Once installed this should last the lifetime of your house.
Without this insulation, your empty cavity wall allows heat to escape all too easily! You will probably have noticed that shortly after you turn down your heating (gas, electricity, oil) your rooms begin to feel cold. Because of this you turn up your heating, probably even higher than before, to make the temperature more comfortable. The result? You use more fuel - you receive more costly utility bills!. Depending on the size of your house and with current high fuel prices we can be talking -200 - -300 more costly!
HOW DO I CLAIM MY GRANT ?
Very simple! We do it for you! When we survey your property and take your order for the insulation, we give you the claim form to sign - and we do the rest!
IS CAVITY WALL INSULATION EXPENSIVE?
No. It is very economically priced! We tell you the cost when we have surveyed your property as prices depend on the size of your house and therefore the amount of insulation material that we have to use. With the grant available and the reductions in your fuel bills, your insulation will pay for itself in a couple of years.
HOW LONG WILL THE INSTALLATION TAKE?
An average three bedroom semi-detached house will take around 2 to 3 hours.
WILL THERE BE ANY MESS?
Absolutely not! The insulation material is injected between the brickwork and into the cavity from the outside of your house. Our installers will not need to come inside. The insulation material is blown under pressure through a pre-determined pattern of drilled holes. These are afterwards filled with mortar that is colour matched to your external wall colour. We always make sure that the wall of your property where the insulation is injected is left as close as possible to it's original state and that the site is in as clean a condition as when we arrived. If you look on our 'Testimonials' page you will see comments about the cleanliness and effectiveness of our installations!
